Six Views of Newhaven

Kathryn Milliss ACS got the best project: going to the Tanami Desert, in Australia's Northern Territory, to direct a short art doco about 6 artists who accepted a charity residency to help promote and raise funds for the charity Australian Wildlife Conservancy. The artists spend 7 days at Newhaven, painting and learning about AWCs conservation efforts and the local Aboriginal customs and tracking expertise. The proceeds of the art sales gets divided between AWC and the artists. See the gallery opening speeches below for better detail.

The exhibition opening at Defiance Gallery, in Paddington, was a fine affair with the six artists in attendance and speeches from the gallery manager, Dallas Moore, Nick Butcher, the director of AWC, Lea Ferris who, together with gallery director, Campbell Robertson-Swann, dreamed up the art/charity structure and art critic and raconteur, John McDonald.
